お月見

Jolly Life English では、教科書から学ぶ英語の知識以上に、実体験に基づいて学ぶことの大切さを常に意識しながらレッスンを進めています。

今週のテーマは「お月見」。
「お月見ってなあに？」「うさぎの結婚式？」「みんなで月を見ること？」――子どもたちの想像はさまざまです。

「どうして月を見るの？」「ススキは？」「お団子はどうしてお供えするの？」
年齢によってお月見に対する思いは違いますが、そこから生まれる好奇心を大切にしました。

授業では、日本語と英語でお月見について説明をしたり、ペープサートを使った寸劇をして遊びました。そして「お団子作り」に挑戦！

Jolly Life English のクッキングは、材料・調理器具・作り方を英語で学び、すべて自分の手で作ることを大切にしています。

粉に水を入れてこねるときは少し戸惑いながらも、ワクワク感いっぱい。丸めた団子をお湯に入れるときには「怖いー」「できなーい」という声もありましたが、おたまを使ったり、お友達に助けてもらったりしながら、協力して作り上げました。

ゆで上がったお団子はツヤツヤでプリプリ！ほとんどの子どもたちが出来立てを何もつけずに食べてしまうほどでした。あんこ・きなこ・チョコレートを加えて、さらに美味しいお団子が完成しました。

このような活動を通じて、日本文化を体で感じながら学び、その経験を言葉にして伝えられる国際人へと成長してほしいと願っています。
テキスト学習の良さと、体験から学ぶ良さを組み合わせた、心に残るレッスンをこれからもクリエイトしていきます。

Moon Festival

At Jolly Life English, we believe that learning goes far beyond textbooks. We place great importance on hands-on experiences as a vital part of our lessons.

This week’s theme was Tsukimi (the Moon-Viewing Festival).
“What is Tsukimi?”
“Is it a rabbit’s wedding?”
“Is it when everyone watches the moon together?”
The children’s answers were full of imagination.

“Why do we look at the moon?” “What is the pampas grass for?” “Why do we offer dumplings?”
Each age group had different ideas, and we encouraged their curiosity through these questions.

In class, we explained the tradition in both Japanese and English, and even acted out a short play using paper puppets. Then came the highlight—making rice dumplings!

At Jolly Life English cooking lessons, children learn the names of ingredients, utensils, and cooking steps in English, and most importantly, they make everything by themselves.

When mixing flour with water, some were hesitant at first, but their excitement quickly showed. As they shaped the dumplings and dropped them into boiling water, some exclaimed “It’s scary!” or “I can’t do it!”—yet with a ladle, or with help from friends, they all managed together.

The freshly cooked dumplings were shiny and springy! Many children couldn’t resist and ate them plain right away. With sweet bean paste, kinako, or even chocolate, they created delicious treats of their own.

Through experiences like this, we hope children will connect deeply with Japanese culture and grow into global citizens who can share these traditions with the world.
By combining the strengths of textbooks with the richness of real-life experiences, we continue to create lessons that are both meaningful and unforgettable.
