私自身幼少期から英語に触れて育ち、大学時代アメリカへ短期留学したりしながら英語の習得に励みました。子どもが生まれたら、バイリンガルにさせよう！！と日本にいる時はできるだけ英語の環境に触れさせようと頑張っていたのがつい昨日の事のように思い出されます。

2007年に家族でバンコクへ移住し、現地のイギリス系インターナショナルスクールでの子育てが始まりました。息子が小さい頃は毎年オーストラリアの現地小学校へ息子を入学させ、私は近くの大学で開かれていたオープンスクールに参加して休暇を楽しみました。主人の仕事の関係で住むことになったバンコクですが、私のアンテナは日本人コミュニティーだけでなく常に外に向いていて、息子の学校も日本人が少なかったこともあり、気がつけば色々な国の人と過ごす事が自然になっていました。

幼稚園から高校まで国際的な環境で育った息子は高校では生徒会長という大役を務めました。卒業後、カナダのトロント大学へ進学し、過酷な大学生活を送ります。晴れてダブルメジャーを取得し、昨年より外資系大手コンサルタント会社で働き始めました。私自身は、息子の友達が日本語を教えて欲しいと言われたことがきっかけになり日本語養成講座を受講して日本語を教える仕事を始めました。もともと日本で幼稚園に勤務していたので人と関わる仕事は楽しく、そこで知り合えた多くのタイ人のおかげでバンコク生活がより豊かなものになりました。その後、インターナショナルスクールに勤務することになり、日本語を教えたり日本から入学してくる子供達のサポート、保護者の方のサポートをする機会に恵まれ、微力ながら子ども達が不安なく学校生活に馴染めるよう日々尽力しました。昨年日本に帰国し、現在はインターナショナル幼稚園でK 1クラスの担任という立場で子どもの英語教育に関わっています。

Let me introduce myself.

I was exposed to English from a young age and worked hard to master the language during my university years, including a short-term study abroad in the United States. I vividly remember how, when my child was born, I made every effort to immerse him in an English-speaking environment with the goal of raising him bilingual—this feels like it was just yesterday.

In 2007, my family moved to Bangkok, and our journey in raising our child at a British international school began. When my son was younger, every year, I enrolled him in an Australian elementary school, while I enjoyed attending open schools at a nearby university during our holidays. Although we moved to Bangkok due to my husband’s work, I always kept my eyes open to the world beyond the Japanese community. Since my son’s school had few Japanese students, I naturally ended up spending time with people from various countries.

My son, who grew up in an international environment from kindergarten through high school, eventually became the student council president in high school. After graduation, he went on to the University of Toronto in Canada and experienced the challenges of university life. He successfully obtained a double major and started working at a major international consulting firm last year. As for me, the turning point came when one of my son’s friends asked me to teach Japanese, which led me to take a Japanese language teaching course and begin teaching Japanese. Having previously worked at a kindergarten in Japan, I found joy in working with people, and the many Thai people I met along the way made my life in Bangkok even richer. Later, I had the opportunity to work at an international school, where I taught Japanese, supported children from Japan who were enrolling, and assisted parents. I worked hard, albeit in a small way, to ensure that the children could adjust to school life without anxiety. After returning to Japan last year, I am currently teaching English as the homeroom teacher for the K1 class at an international kindergarten, continuing my involvement in children’s English education.
